Escape to Bucharest

Programme — Bucharest City Break 4 days / 3 nights
Day 1 — Arrival in Bucharest
Arrival and transfer to the chosen hotel. Accommodation.
Day 2 — Bucharest (walking city tour)
Breakfast at the hotel. Pick-up at the hotel and start of the approximately 3-hour city tour. Bucharest means "city of joy" and was known as the "Little Paris of the East" for its French-influenced buildings and rich cultural life.
During the tour you will admire: Unirii Square, where the old and modern parts of the city contrast; the imposing Palace of the Parliament, the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon, whose construction began in 1983, with 315,000 m² of floor space and 40 halls for congresses and meetings. Following the Dâmbovița River you reach the Court of Justice building and enter Victory Street — the oldest in Bucharest — with the National History Museum, the Savings Bank (C.E.C.) building, the Military Club and the Capșa Hotel, the oldest in the city. Continuing along Victory Street you reach the former Royal Palace (1837, rebuilt in 1937), now the Art Museum with a universal art section (Ribera, Zurbarán, Velázquez, Tintoretto, Rembrandt, Van Eyck, Delacroix, El Greco), the Athenaeum (1888), home of the George Enescu Philharmonic, and the Athenee Palace Hotel.
The tour continues to University Square (1859), flanked by the University, the National Theatre, the Bucharest History and Art Museum (Suțu Palace) and Colțea Hospital, the first in Bucharest. You will also visit the former Curtea Veche ("the old court") neighbourhood, with the palace built by Prince Vlad the Impaler (15th century) and Hanul lui Manuc inn, now a hotel with a restaurant, currently the area with the most bars and restaurants in the city.
Day 3 — Bucharest
Breakfast at the hotel. Free day to visit some of the many museums: the Art Museum, the National History Museum (with the national treasure: jewellery and gold and silver pieces), or the Village Museum (with nearly 300 original constructions from all regions of Romania, on the shores of Lake Herăstrău). Shopping is also possible in the old town — Lipscani Street and surroundings — or in one of the modern shopping centres. Depending on the season, opera, ballet or classical music performances may be available (the artistic season runs from October to June; special summer programmes are offered in summer).
Day 4 — Bucharest › Airport
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport at the arranged time.
