Berlin Student Excursions

Guided Tour of Berlin with Expert Guides

A frequent stage of history, Berlin is attractive, interesting, complex and simply fascinating. We will explore West Berlin (the Zoo, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Kurfürstendamm Avenue, KaDeWe, the Tiergarten, the Reichstag…); East Berlin (Alexanderplatz, the St Nicholas Quarter, Museum Island, Unter den Linden Avenue, Forum Fridericianum, Gendarmenmarkt, the Brandenburg Gate…); the Nazi era (the book-burning square, the Holocaust Memorial…) and of course the Wall (its former route, surviving sections and the Checkpoint Charlie border crossing).

Berlin — The Neighbourhoods and the Wall on Foot & Public Transport
Following the former route of the Wall, we will discover 3 of the city's most famous neighbourhoods — their history, character, landmarks and everyday life. In the former Soviet sector: Prenzlauer Berg, the alternative-urban neighbourhood — we will visit the National Memorial to the Division of Germany (where part of the Wall and the Communist escape-prevention infrastructure has been preserved intact), the Wall Park and the popular Kulturbrauerei. Friedrichshain, the alternative-student neighbourhood — we will see the Soviet propaganda avenue, the East Side Gallery (the painted section of the Wall) and the City of Lamps. In the former American sector: Kreuzberg 36, or the Turkish Quarter, the alternative-exotic neighbourhood — we will visit the tree house, Berlin's earliest underground stations and Little Istanbul. Plus nightlife venues, parks, squares, canals, churches, shops, bridges, street markets, the best graffiti…

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp
Today a memorial museum dedicated to its approximately 200,000 prisoners: political opponents, Jews, priests, homeless people, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, prisoners of war, forgers… Built to a geometric plan, it was intended as a model of Nazi rationality. The camp closest to the capital also served as a training centre for commanders and guards of other camps. What were the camps? How and why did they come about? How did they operate? We will show you the site and tell you what happened there.

Potsdam from Berlin
In Potsdam, Frederick the Great showed the world the power, greatness and refinement of a rising European force: Prussia. On the Soviet side, barely touched by the bombs, Cecilienhof Palace hosted the 1945 Peace Conference. Today the capital of Brandenburg, the city retains all the charm of a small German town. In the Sanssouci Gardens you will visit Frederick the Great's tomb and the Church of Peace. In the city you will see the Baroque centre, the Dutch Quarter and the winter palace. In the New Garden we will enter Cecilienhof Palace. And you will cross from Potsdam, former Soviet Germany, into American Berlin — across the famous Bridge of Spies!
