BUDAPEST – GÖDÖLLÖ – HEREND – BALATON – TAPOLCA – GYÖR – FERTÖD

Day 1: Budapest. (BB)

Welcome to Hungary! After the arrival to Budapest, meeting with your English-speaking guide and private transfer to Hotel Leonardo 4**** or similar. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 2: Budapest Sightseeing Tours. (HB)

Breakfast and departure for the sightseeing tour. The Danube divides the city into Buda and Pest. In Buda we will visit the Castle Hill, which comprises the Royal Palace, the colourful Matthias Church, where traditionally the Hungarian kings were crowned, and the beautiful Fishermen’s Bastion. From the mountain of St Gerard and the stronghold of the Citadel we can admire the most stunning view of the capital. Lunch in a central restaurant. We will continue in Pest with the interior visit of St Stephen’s Basilica. We will godown the majestic Andrássy avenue, in front of the famous Opera House, until Heroes’ Square, that commemorates the 1000th anniversary of the settlement in the country. In the city park of Varosliget we will walk around the Castle of Vajdahunyad. Finally we will visit the Parliament* and the Opera. Dinner and accommodation. * the Parliament reserves the right of admission on special occasions. 

Day 3: Budapest - Gödöllo - Budapest. (HB)

After breakfast, meeting with the guide and departure to Gödöllo. After a 30-minutes drive, we arrive to one of the largest baroque palaces in the world, the antique summer residence of Queen Isabel (known as Sissi) and Franz Joseph I Habsburg (Austrian emperor and king of Hungary between 1867 and 1916 as well). During the visit of the museum and the promenade in the gardens we evoke the times of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The guide will reveal the secrets of the dormitories, the hidden doors, the private life and the lovers of the royal couple. Return to Budapest for lunch in a typical restaurant. Free afternoon. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 4: Budapest - Herend - Tapolca (FB)

After breakfast, departure with the guide to Herend. We are going to visit one of the biggest manufactures of porcelain in the world, founded in 1826. After the guided walk in the workshops, we invite you to a coffee and we leave some time for shopping as well. We continue to Lake Balaton, the biggest fresh water lake in Central Europe. After a lunch of 3 courses in a “csárda” we will travel to Balatonfüred, where the oldest spa of Hungary was built, and we will take a walk around on the famous “Tagore” passage. In the afternoon we will leave to Tapolca. Dinner in the famous vineyard area and accommodation in hotel Pelion 4**** or similar, where you can enjoy the spa.

Day 5: Tapolca - Keszthely -Tihany - Tapolca (FB)

After breakfast, departure to Keszthely through Hévíz, where is the second biggest hot water in the world. 420 litres of benignly radioactive water at 36°C sprout every second, rich in sulfur, gases and minerals, and with its own and particular circulation system. Its therapeutic water and medicinal mud are used since 1795, especially for locomotive problems. In Keszthely we visit the Festetics Castle, one of the larges rococo palaces of the country, still boasting the original furniture and a beautiful English park. After lunch in a typical restaurant we continue our excursion to the peninsula of Tihany, famous for its 9th century Benedictine abbey, later rebuilt and decorated in Baroque style. Return to Tapolca, dinner and accommodation.

Day 6: Tapolca - Pannonhalma - Gyor (FB)

After breakfast, departure to Pannonhalma, to visit the first Benedictine Abbey of Hungary, located on Mount St Martin and UNESCO World Heritage. Lunch in a typical restaurant next to the Abbey. Departure to Gyor, the baroque city called “the City of Encounters” because three rivers (the Danube, the Rába and the Rábca) meet there. We visit the Episcopal Cathedral, the Carmelite Church in the Vienna Gate Square and we admire the beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary. In Széchenyi Square we visit the Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Dinner and accommodation in Hotel Famulus 4**** or similar.

Day 7: Gyor - Fertód - Budapest (HB)

After breakfast, departure for the town of Fertod, to visit the Esterházy Castle, the mini-Versailles of Central Europe. It is the largest and most spectacular baroque palace of Hungary, built by the Habsburgs of Hungary, the noble Esterházy family. Lunch in a typical restaurant and return to Budapest. Accommodation in Hotel Leonardo 4**** or similar.

Day 8: Departure from Budapest. (BB)

Breakfast and, at the indicated time, transfer with our guide to the airport to take the return flight.
