This nickname for Madrid's historic centre has its origins in history: it is in this area that the Habsburg dynasty built the historic buildings of the city they chose as the capital of Spain. Its architecture recalls the era of the Spanish Empire, when the Habsburgs ruled a realm stretching from the Low Countries to the Americas. Come and explore old Madrid with one of our guides and visit the interior of the Royal Palace.
Programme (4 days / 3 nights)
Day 1 — Arrival in Madrid
Arrival and private transfer to the chosen hotel with English-speaking driver. Free day to explore the city.
Day 2 — Habsburg Madrid
Breakfast at the hotel. Your local guide will collect you and begin the tour of the "Habsburg Madrid" area, including entry to the Royal Palace. The neighbourhood stretches from Sol along Calle Mayor and Arenal to La Latina and Plaza de Oriente. The tour begins at Puerta del Sol, just a few steps from Plaza Mayor — the heart of Habsburg Madrid. From there, Calle Mayor leads to Bailén, La Almudena Cathedral, Plaza de Oriente and the Royal Palace. On the other side lies La Latina with its lively nightlife.
Day 3 — Madrid free
Breakfast at the hotel. Free day to continue exploring the city.
Day 4 — Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Free day to explore the city. Private transfer to the airport with English-speaking driver.
